Some of our finds processing sessions have taken place in open stands within the busy commercial centre of Newark, the Buttermarket. Flint artefacts were washed and marked up with unique codes, attracting the attention of local shoppers who were encouraged to join in and find out more about the ancient heritage of their local area.
Site Open Days
Many of our excavation days were open to the public – with guided tours of the site mentioned in the Newark Advertiser and a feature on BBC East Midlands Today. A whole host of interested parties visited, with the children enjoying our ‘play dig’, and everyone soaking up the sun and knowledge of the Farndon Fields site.
We have presented findings to date at a number of different venues in the East Midlands, including Newark Castle, the Town Hall and the Nottinghamshire Local History and Archaeology Day at the University of Nottingham Museum. Keep an eye on the ‘events’ page for more!
