Some of our finds processing sessions have taken place in open stands within the busy commercial centre of Newark, the Buttermarket. Finds were washed and marked up with unique codes, attracting the attention of local shoppers who were welcome to join in and find out more about the ancient lifestyles of their local area.
Site Open Days
Sundays of the last field session were public open days - with guided tours of the site mentioned in the Newark Advertiser and a piece on BBC East Midlands Today. A whole host of interested parties arrived, with the children enjoying our 'play dig' and everyone soaking up the sun and knowledge of the Farndon Fields site.
We have presented findings to date at a number of different venues in the East Midlands, including Newark Castle (above & below), Newark Town Hall and at the 1st Nottinghamshire Local History and Archaeology Day at the University of Nottingham museum. Keep an eye on the 'Events' page for more!
